When Science Meets Fitness

Over the last decade, I’ve spent a lot of time developing my fitness education through research, self trial and error, and, most importantly, meeting and working with other fitness professionals. 

One year, while on a US tour, I CrossFitted cross country, participating in the CrossFit Open along the way. This meant that I got to visit some of the best gyms nationwide. This totally changed my outlook and education in the fitness industry. While I was on the road for six months, not only did I change my body, but I also completely changed my mindset and my education through the results I achieved. Soon after this experience is when I became a certified nutritionist through Precision Nutrition and started my business, Kitbody.

In 2012, I competed in the OCB Natural Yankee Classic and won 1st for my figure debut. I also competed in the 16th Annual Revolution Powerlifting Syndicate Meet, squatting 180 lbs, benching 105 lbs, and deadlifting 240 lbs. After months of training and dedication, I finished the meet with a Female Raw Classic Total of 525 lbs. 

I’ve had the privilege to train with some of the best of the best in the most renowned gyms out there. One highlight of my fitness tour was training with the Godfather of Powerlifting, Louis Simmons, at the one and only Westside Barbell in Columbus, Ohio. I’ll never forget that day because I got to train with some of the strongest men in the world. (An epic day to say the least!)

As a nutritionist and fitness coach, I am consistently working hard to expand my knowledge base by trying new things. When my current training regimen starts to feel stale, I head out to take a new fitness class or visit a new gym. This is a great way to spice things up and it inspires me to train in new and different ways. 

While co-hosting on the Richard Listens Show, two of our special guests happened to be trainers at Studeo, one of the best gyms in Beverly Hills. This ultra-modern gym offers practically everything you could ever want in a fitness facility while offering a unique experience.

During my first visit to Studeo, I tried out their group fitness classes. When I first walked in the group training room, it was like nothing I had ever seen before in a gym. The lighting set a completely different mood and once I began training I realized how this type of atmosphere contributed to me getting the most out of my workout. The classes are hard to describe in words and are something I wouldn’t think twice about recommending. The game-changer is having a live trainer within this atmosphere that helps you push past your own personal limits.

First, I was treated with the Theragun by Jana Finkbiner, their group training program director and coach. If you’re not familiar with Theraguns, they are described by the company as “The original high-frequency, high-amplitude neuromuscular percussive therapy device that provides muscle activation, recovery, and pain relief.” I had never begun a training session with a Theragun before, so this was another way for me to experience something new. 

Next, I went through a dynamic warmup headed by Josh Iwanaka, their general manager. When you visit Studeo, you can expect the highest quality from the trainers all the way down to the equipment. Part of my workout was training with the Rogue Foam Games Box. It was great because it’s firm enough to perform plyometric movements but also soft enough so you won’t tear up your shins on the edges if you have a misstep. (That feeling when a shin hits a wooden box. Not fun!) Just another example of the quality you will find at this facility. 

Post-workout at Studeo is when you’re really treated like you’re in the big leagues. You get to lounge out in Normatec Boots that help you recover while you enjoy a freshly made protein shake that’s made just for you. Throughout the past decade, I’ve had the privilege of working out with some of the best coaches and professional athletes in some of the best facilities in the industry.
